[Exhibitions] Daegu This Weekend: Jeong Seon at Kansong and Riverside Art

VisionPencil·

If you have time for only one stop in Daegu this weekend (October 3 to 4), make it the Jeong Seon special exhibition at Kansong Art Museum Daegu. If you would rather be outdoors, the Dalseong Daegu Contemporary Art Festival at The ARC on the Gangjeong Weir closes on October 11, so this weekend or next is your window. On the evening of October 3, the Dalseong 100 Pianos concert takes place once at Samunjin.

Every date below was rechecked on the official websites on October 3, 2026. From October 2 to 21, Daegu groups its autumn festivals under one name, Fantasia Daegu Festa, so there is plenty to choose from each weekend.

Which indoor exhibition should you see this weekend?

Gyeomjae Jeong Seon: Painting Joseon Through Joseon's Eyes · September 16 to December 27, 2026 · Kansong Art Museum Daegu, Galleries 1, 2, 4 and 5

This special exhibition marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of Jeong Seon, the Joseon painter known for true-view landscape painting. According to the museum website, October is still on summer hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with ticket sales ending one hour before closing. From November the museum closes at 6 p.m.

The museum is closed on Mondays. When a Monday is a public holiday, it opens that day and closes the next weekday instead. The special exhibition is ticketed, and prices by age group are listed on the museum's visitor information page. A special exhibition ticket also covers the permanent display of the painting Portrait of a Beauty. Children under 7, visitors 65 and over, registered disabled visitors and national merit recipients get free tickets at the front desk with proof of eligibility.

October 3 is National Foundation Day, a public holiday in Korea, so expect crowds and book ahead.

Where can you see art outdoors?

2026 Dalseong Daegu Contemporary Art Festival · September 11 to October 11, 2026 · The ARC plaza and surroundings, Gangjeong Weir

This year's theme is "Movement: Flow, Stay, Flow." The works are installed around the Gangjeong Weir, where the Nakdong and Geumho rivers meet, so your walking route is your viewing route. It closes on October 11, which makes this weekend and the next long weekend the last real chances to go.

VisionPencil is a studio that makes media art for indoor LED screens and building facades. When we look at outdoor installations, we pay attention to how a piece changes between daylight and dusk. For a riverside show like this one, we suggest arriving in the late afternoon and staying until the light shifts.

What is on in the evening?

  • 2026 Dalseong 100 Pianos · Saturday, October 3, 7 p.m. · Samunjin Open-Air Stage. The festival grew out of the story that the first piano in Korea arrived through Samunjin ferry landing in 1900. It runs for one night only.
  • 23rd Daegu International Opera Festival, opening production Carmen · October 2 to 3 · Kolon Outdoor Music Hall. The festival continues until October 31. The next production, Turandot, plays October 9 to 10 at the Daegu Student Culture Center.

Seating and ticketing differ by event, so check the Daegu Opera House and Fantasia Daegu Festa websites before you go.

What is on next weekend?

Hangul Day, October 9, falls on a Friday, which makes next weekend a three-day holiday. According to the Fantasia Daegu Festa website, these events follow:

  • 2026 Daegu Folk Festival · October 9 to 10 · Kim Kwang-seok Street outdoor stage
  • 2026 Daegu Living Culture Festival · October 10 to 11 · Hwarang Park in Manchon-dong and the Daegu Living Culture Center
  • Final weekend of the Dalseong Daegu Contemporary Art Festival · until October 11 · The ARC, Gangjeong Weir

For a balanced long weekend, try Kim Kwang-seok Street on Friday, Kansong Art Museum on Saturday and the Gangjeong Weir on Sunday. If the weather turns, just swap the order.
